Protech Garage Doors repairs garage doors and openers in Limoges, the village at exit 79 of the 417 between Larose Forest and the Calypso water park, with a van sent from 46 Grenfell Crescent in Nepean, about 45 km by road. The phone line is open 24 hours. Call (613) 845-9950 for a broken spring, a door that stops partway, an opener that has died, or a quote on a new door.
Forty-five kilometres, and a summer exit
Limoges has no Protech premises. The van takes Hunt Club to the 417, runs 28 km east to exit 79 and comes in on Limoges Road, County Road 5. From mid-June to September that exit also serves Calypso, which opened on 2010-06-07 on 100 acres beside the village, calls itself Canada's largest theme waterpark, and takes about 400,000 visitors a season with room for 22,000 in a day. A same-day call on a hot Saturday in July is booked around that traffic. The rest of the year this is one of the easier runs in Prescott-Russell.
One village, two municipalities
The east and north of Limoges are in The Nation, and the west of the village is in Russell Township. The Township of Russell describes itself as including part of the village of Limoges, and the village association says the same. It makes no difference to a spring change. It makes a difference to anything that needs a permit. The Nation's building department reviews a detached-garage application against its zoning by-law and the regulations of South Nation Conservation, asks for the conservation authority's approval if the building is near a watercourse, requires a permit for any accessory building over 15 square metres, and recommends a consultation before you start. Russell Township has the same 15 square metre threshold and the same conservation-authority line, and from 2026-05-04 to 2026-09-02 it has been issuing 48-hour permits for sheds and minor residential work. Which counter you go to is set by the municipal line through the village, and the two municipalities are both French-speaking by majority: 63% French mother tongue in The Nation, 38% in Russell Township. Limoges itself is 1,185 French and 765 English of 2,185, with 1,500 able to speak both. Ask when you call whether French is available on the line.
The newest doors in Prescott-Russell
Limoges counted 1,723 people in 2011, 2,048 in 2016 and 2,213 in 2021. The village association says the wider village has more than 4,000 residents and has more than doubled since 2000; the census draws its line tighter, and both figures are given here with their owners. Take the census for the houses. Of 805 occupied dwellings in 2021, 460 were built between 2006 and 2015. That is 57% of the village inside one ten-year window. Only 35 dwellings predate 1961.
A door hung in 2008 is now eighteen years old and a door hung in 2014 is twelve, and both are past the age at which the original spring, sized by the builder to a builder-grade door, has done its rated work. The signs arrive on whole streets in the same two or three winters because the streets went up in the same two or three summers: a door that has gone heavy, an opener that strains and slows, a safety reversal that trips more than it used to. When the spring on one house goes, the neighbours' springs are the same age. Book the tune-up before the bang, and have the cables done with the spring.
Built on the sand that made a desert
Larose Forest, on the village's doorstep, is 10,944.7 hectares of planted trees on what was once the Bourget Desert: farmland cleared in the 1800s, burned over in 1897, and reduced to blowing sand. Ferdinand Larose, the agricultural representative for Prescott and Russell, persuaded the Russell County council to buy 490 hectares in 1928, the first 40 hectares went in as red pine that year, and by 2016 more than 18 million trees had been planted on it. The forest is there because the ground is sand. For a garage that is a quiet advantage: sand drains, and a slab on it stays where it was poured, so a Limoges door that rubs on one side or leaves daylight under the seal is a track, roller or hinge problem rather than the ground moving. In Orléans, on the clay, the same symptom often is the ground.
What Protech does in Limoges
Residential garage door repair on the 2006 to 2015 houses is most of it: springs and cables as that cohort reaches them, opener repair and limit resets, and new doors from Garaga, Amarr and Stanley where a builder-grade door on a garage under a bedroom is worth swapping for an insulated one. The businesses along Limoges Road and at the exit, the self-storage and the park included, run commercial doors and openers, and those are serviced on the same line.
Repair or replace, and what it costs
The part sets the price, and in Limoges the part is usually a spring pair or a gear kit on a door that is twelve to eighteen years old, which is repair territory. Replace when the bottom section has rusted through, when a door has been dragged by an opener for years and the top panel has bowed, or when the door is coming off anyway and the insulated version would change how the room above the garage feels in February. Ask for the repair figure and the replacement figure together, and say which municipality the house is in if the opening is changing.

Why does the village side matter for a permit?
Because the municipal line runs through Limoges. The east and north are in The Nation and the west is in Russell Township, and the two counters are separate. Both require a permit for an accessory building over 15 square metres and both want South Nation Conservation approval where the building is near a watercourse. It makes no difference at all to a spring change.
The door rubs on one side. Is the ground moving under my garage?
Almost certainly not here. Larose Forest exists because this ground is sand, planted from 1928 on what had been blowing sand, and sand drains, so a slab poured on it stays where it was poured. That makes a Limoges door that rubs or leaves daylight under the seal a track, roller or hinge problem. In Orleans, on the clay, the same symptom often is the ground.
Is a July Saturday a bad day to book?
It is the one day to plan around. Exit 79 also serves Calypso from mid-June to September, which takes about 400,000 visitors a season and has room for 22,000 in a day, so a hot Saturday puts the waterpark traffic on the road the van uses. The rest of the year this is one of the easier runs in Prescott-Russell.
