About Protech Garage Doors

Two shops, one in Nepean and one in Mississauga, each answering its own line. Most of the work is repair; the rest is replacing doors that have reached the end of what a repair can do for them.

Protech Garage Doors sells, installs and repairs garage doors and openers for houses and for commercial buildings. Most of the work is repair: a spring that has snapped, a door that has come off its track, an opener that has stopped responding. The rest is replacing doors that have reached the end of what a repair can do for them.

Two shops, and each one answers its own line

The Ottawa branch works out of 46 Grenfell Crescent Unit A in Nepean and covers the city and the towns around it. The Mississauga branch works out of 1495 Bonhill Road, unit 14, and covers the GTA and the Golden Horseshoe.

Every page on this site shows the number for the branch that covers the place the page is about, and no other. That is deliberate, and it is a correction: the old site published one Ottawa number on all 33 of its pages, including the page about Toronto. A number that rings a different province is worse than no number at all.

Repairs first, new doors when it is time

A garage door is a mechanism, and almost everything that goes wrong with one is a part rather than the door. Springs, cables, drums, rollers, hinges, tracks, photo-eye sensors and opener gear kits are all replaceable, and a sound door on new hardware is as good as it was. That is where most of the week goes.

A door gets replaced when it has been hit, when the bottom section has rusted through, when its hardware has all reached the end of its life at once, or when a single-layer door is sitting on a garage that now needs to hold heat. Those four cases are on the replacement page, and the arithmetic is worth doing before anyone orders anything.

What happens when you call

The first thing a technician does is put the door on manual and lift it by hand. A correctly counterbalanced door stays roughly where you leave it at waist height. That one test separates a door problem from an opener problem faster than anything else, and it decides whether the visit is about a spring or about a gear kit.

The truck carries torsion and extension springs, cables, rollers, hinges, drums and opener gear kits, so most calls are finished on the first visit rather than becoming an order and a second appointment. What is on the truck is the reason for that, not the size of the crew.

The brands on the van

Doors from Garaga, Amarr and Stanley. Openers from LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie: chain, belt, screw and wall-mount. Protech is a Garaga dealer, which is a thing you can check for yourself in the Garaga dealer directory rather than a badge chosen off a shelf.

Where the reviews are

On the Google Business Profile for each branch, and nowhere else. The rating and the count render at the foot of every page on this site, exact, with the date they were read and a link to the profile they came from. They are not rounded up, they are not restated as "over 100 customers", and no page on this site claims a rating in its own structured data. If a number about this business appears here, it came from somewhere you can go and look.

Where to go next

Every service is listed on the services page. Every place we cover is on the service areas page, including the ones with no page of their own. The contact page lists our locations and their numbers.
