Barrie sits in the snowbelt off Georgian Bay, and most of its snow is lake-effect: bands that come in off the water and drop on the city while Toronto stays dry. Environment Canada's 1981 to 2010 normals for the Barrie WPCC station give 223.0 cm a year, 65.9 cm of it in January.
