The power is back but the door will not run from the button. Why?
If somebody pulled the red cord during the outage, the trolley on the rail is still disconnected from the door. On Chamberlain and LiftMaster openers, pull the cord toward the motor so the release arm returns to horizontal, then run the opener through one full open and one full close. The trolley catches the carriage on the way and reconnects. If it misses the first time, Chamberlain's advice is to run one more full cycle.
Our opener was made after 2022 and holding the wall button will not close the door. Is it faulty?
Probably not. On older Chamberlain and LiftMaster units, a door with blocked or misaligned eyes could still be closed by holding the wall control's push bar until it reached the floor. Chamberlain says any opener or replacement logic board made after 3 February 2022 no longer has that feature. On a newer head the eyes have to see each other before the door will close, so clean and align them, and if the head keeps flashing ten times, book the sensors.
Should the opener be unplugged when the power goes out?
Once, yes. Alectra advises unplugging electronic equipment during an outage so the surge when power returns does not damage it, and suggests leaving one light switched on so you know when that happens. Plug the opener back in when the light comes on and stays on. What Chamberlain warns against is unplugging and replugging an opener over and over, which can damage the parts inside.
