Row house garages

Statistics Canada counted 23,305 row houses in London in 2021, 13 per cent of occupied homes, and defines one as 3 or more homes joined side by side with none above or below. The test earns its keep in the Bishop Hellmuth district north of Oxford Street, where the houses are brick from 1895 to 1910 and many garages stand detached on their own slab. With the router indoors, a brick wall and a yard sit between it and the motor. Stand in the garage with the door down and read the phone before paying for Wi-Fi; under 2 bars, add an extender or put a keypad on the jamb.

Battery backup on London Hydro's figures

London Hydro's 2024 scorecard for the Ontario Energy Board, covering 168,224 customers, shows the average one with 0.88 interruptions totalling 0.78 hours, about 47 minutes, much of it scheduled work. It is for 2 kinds of garage: one with no side door, where the overhead door is the only way in, and one whose owner cannot lift the door by hand on the release. LiftMaster expects roughly 1 to 2 years from the battery in its heads, so mark the install month on it.

LiftMaster and Chamberlain come from one maker and share the myQ app; Genie uses Aladdin Connect. A house already running one app keeps it by staying with that maker.
